Lumia 640XL Camera V LGG3 Camera
Lumia 640XL
Absence
Hi, I really haven't done much here for quite a while, but as it is only a hobby and I bore folk free of charge I'm not going to go on a massive guilt trip. I kind of intended doing a piece on the LGG3 I bought to try Android, but my timing was kind of poor as the new LGG4 got launched before I got round to it, may still do a little opinion thing on it , haven't decided yet !
So to the title of this piece, I have been given a trial with another Microsoft handset via Connects , which I am extremely grateful for , one because it's always nice to have new toys to play with and two, it's nice to know you're still 'in the loop' , I have been extremely busy at work the last few months and as well as neglecting what I laughingly describe as writing, I have been much less active on social media too.

Anyway, this is just a quick comparison piece, I know lots of people compare phone cameras, but I'm doing it anyway, I consider a year old Android flagship to be better than a new mid range Windows phone and as I found a spare hour tonight I nipped out ad took some snaps with the two handsets. I have had some reasonable results with the LG during the last couple of months, but would describe its camera as 'capable' rather than good , although it seems to excel at close up stuff, the new Lumia 640 XL has a 13 megapixel camera unit and up until a few hours ago I had never tried it as I only received it yesterday & spent the evening setting it up. That said, I have been using Lumia phones & cameras since the Launch of the Lumia 800 so the learning curve was virtually zero and overall the camera specs on the two handsets are pretty similar ?

Quick and final photo upload which quite surprised me, the LG camera with auto HDR normally works well with extreme light difference, but I really think the Lumia Camera with simple touch to focus on the tree caught things much better !
Beating extreme contrast
Conclusion
This is not meant to be scientific, all I have done is try & replicate the photos with each phone , neither of which have a dedicated camera button, so I've been tapping the screen of both to focus and take photos, the new mid range Lumia has , on first impressions, exceded expectations, photography wise anyway, at least in my opinion. I have tried to take a variety of pics and in all fairness , in a few I believe the LG took a better photo and also had better colour representation. Overall, however I would say the Lumia killed the LG in the photos here.
Oh and as you may expect , I'm quite liking the Lumia 640XL so far and initial highlight, tap to awake has been 100 % successful , which is very pleasing :)
