Cool Stuff

So I like cool well designed stuff and luckily when it comes to accessories (as well as handsets) Nokia produce some of the best. I was lucky to attend Nokia World in Abu Dhabi earlier this year and two of my most useful and cool souvenirs I bought home with me were a couple of great little 4gig memory sticks , the same type I bought as a souvenir at the shop in Nokia House in Helsinki earlier in the year, which I managed to grab from a charming young Nokia girl who was handing them out :) They have a retractable usb connector that pops out when you press the ring on the top of the memory stick with a clicking sound similar to when you click a Biro :) They feel great and work great, but the clickiness is definitely the thing that makes me smile the most, although being able to put a couple of movies on one and being able to stick it in my TV and watch is also great.

gig of spare memory

As well as the normal functionality of the actual memory is the same as any other memory stick, the actual design and materials are great on these little blue sticks, soft feel rubberized case, curved casing and the clicky function make them a step above the average flash memory and the bright blue colour and Nokia motif look classy.

Gift on my table

DC-18

My second and more exciting souvenir (if anything can be more exciting than a clicky blue memory stick ??) was a wonderful little yellow square that appeared on the table in my bedroom in Abu Dhabi on the final day of the event, well I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when I arrived as I gave my room a pretty good search trying to find the TV remote to turn the TV over and I am positive I would have seen a bright yellow mobile phone charger, although alcohol was consumed between visits to my room so i may be mistaken.

Anyway I noticed the DC-18 mobile phone charger on the Wednesday morning with a note from Nokia and it put yet another smile on my face. The DC-18 is one of the latest portable chargers produced by Nokia, it is extremely compact and actually easier and more comfortable to carry around than my Nokia DC-16 charger, which despite having a higher capacity than the little DC-18 (2000 mAh of power versus 1720mAh) actually tops up my Lumia 920 & 1020 less than the smaller charger, go figure ? Neither will fully charges my phones to 100% but the DC-18 does over 50% and also pumps the power in a little quicker.

The design of the DC-18 is really simple, mine is bright Yellow , which matches my Lumias, but it is also available in Red, Cyan & White. It is basically a plastic square with a female micro usb port on one side for charging it up (it comes with a short colour co-ordinated usb to micro usb cable, but will charge using any micro usb charger, well all the ones I have anyway) and at the opposite side is the retractable phone charging cable , which you pull out using a little tab protruding from the side of the charger.. Pulling the cble from the DC-18 illuminates some small white LED lights which show how much power there is left in the power pack, four lights is full, one light means you need a refill :) On the opposite side to the battery symbol and LED lights is the Nokia motif embossed within the casing.

Well that's it really, just another nice, functional and useful accessory from Nokia, it is really comfortable to pop in your pocket or bag with no need to carry an additional usb cable, gives you an extra 50% or so extra use on your Lumia (although it would charge any gadget safely that charged via micro usb) and it charges up and discharges to your gadget nice and quickly. Best price I could find at writing this piece was £14.44, which I think is frankly a snip, specially is you are ever out and about and your smart phone starts to die ?

Thanks for reading
